A HEART-warming music video which tells the story of an additional needs school’s inspiring choir has become an internet sensation.

Talented youngsters from Southcraig school in Ayr have become online stars after the emotional video has been viewed over 11,000 times on YouTube.

The keen performers sang and performed their hearts out to a beautiful song ‘You Will Be Found’ as part of Gaiety creative project that gives Ayr’s youth projects a chance to shine.

The moving clip was the headline act of Open Your Lugs live podcast set in the Carrick Street theatre last month, where the school’s incredible work was projected onto the big screen.

Fiona Dailly, the choir’s leader and teacher at the school has seen the choir go from strength to strength and says the video is the proudest moment of her teaching career.

She told the Advertiser: “We never dreamed in a million years that the video would have so much views. 11,000 people have now seen them, it’s amazing. We are breaking down some barriers and proving our place in the community.

“It’s definitely my proudest moment, as a teacher.

“It’s something I am really passionate about.

“It’s just great to be able to illustrate to the rest of the community, that yes we are an additional support needs school, but the pupils are just young people having fun, making friends and just enjoy their life. That is what we as a school are all about.”

The talented choir had already performed on the Gaiety stage last year singing an emotive number from the hit musical The Greatest Showman, ‘This is Me’.

And the school were keen to be involved in the Open Your Lugs project set up by the Gaiety Creative Learning Team, of Robbie Gordon, Eoin McKenzie, Lydia Davidson, and Manjor Sumal, also known for his role as PC Surjit Singh in the hit series Scots Squad.

The song ‘You Will Be Found’ was adapted from an award-winning West End musical Dear Evan Hansen, which centres around a boy who has social anxiety.

A Glasgow band, The VanIbes helped re-jig the track to suit the choir, with wannabe popstar and soon to be graduate pupil Dylan taking the lead in the song.

Proud teacher Fiona believes that the production has given the 19-year-old and his classmates a true popstar experience.

She said: “Dylan opens the song at the beginning and sings at the very end as well.

“He leaves school this year and he wants to be a popstar, the opportunity he’s had with a film maker, and a director it’s given him the popstar experience.

“I’ve been joking with him ‘Has anyone asked for your autograph yet?’ I’m hoping the day will come that someone does ask him.”

Fiona has praised the full choir for the part they all played in making the music video.

She added: “We always sing This Is Me, that’s our big song, it’s a popular song, its emotional and very relevant to us.

“Lydia had this song in mind, written by the same people. The lyrics are very relevant to the choir.

“Those who can sing are singing through it, but it wasn’t just their voices.

“Anyone can be part of our choir. If you can use a prop, sign, sing, express yourself to show your enjoying it. Everyone has an interest in music, they are driven and motivated by music.”

“It’s just become such a wonderful group, we’re going from strength to strength.”

Headteacher of Southcraig said: “We are extremely proud of the achievements of every one of our children and young people, overcoming any barriers they may have.

“We want to share with our community the inclusive ethos of our school, valuing what our children and young people have to offer.

“Our wonderful, supportive staff team embraces and celebrates what makes every child or young person unique, ensuring a sense of belonging and encouraging them to have a ‘voice’ and be heard.”
