A NEW defibrillator is now in place in Stevenston – thanks to a kind donation from The Order of the Eastern Star Stevenston.

The Masonic group raised funds for the life-saving piece of equipment which will be stored outside Stevenston Library.

Representatives from Eastern Star, the council and Scottish Ambulance Service congregated to present the opening of the device.

Councillor Jimmy Miller said: “I understand when a member of the public uses it, a voice tells you exactly what to do.

“A local ladies Masonic Lodge donated and it’s fantastic.

“As a socialist, I believe the government should be putting these things in but instead it’s been left to volunteers.

“But if there is one thing we’re very proud of in this country, it’s our volunteers .

“I think there should be one in every public building.”
