ONE of Troon’s most popular summer events has been cancelled - three months before it was scheduled.
Fears over the coronavirus have forced Troon Gala Day, scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at South Beach, to be called off.
Helen Duff, chairwoman of organisers Troon Community Council announced with a heavy heart today that it was not going ahead.
She said: “It’s really disappointing that the gala has been called off. This is the first time it hasn’t gone ahead since we re-started it.
“We had been due to choose the Gala Queen and Princess after the Easter Holidays.
"It’s such a shame two wee girls won’t have their big day.
“The decision was made over coronavirus fears. There would be big crowds and owing to the Government ruling on that you can’t take chances and have to be really careful."
