The Scottish Government will work with broadcast providers Hospedia to give free TV to all in-patients at Crosshouse and Ayr Hospital for the next three months.

The move is to account for the restrictions that are in place for visiting patients in hospitals and the impact this could have on the wellbeing of patients. To stop the spread of coronavirus, most hospitals have stopped or significantly limited visits.

Local SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson said: “We know that being in hospital can be a lonely time, particularly so when visits from friends and family are restricted.

“While tackling COVID-19, it’s important to ensure we’re taking care of the wellbeing of hospital in-patients too. That is why for over the next three months, the SNP Government will cover the cost of providing bedside television to every hospital in-patient in Scotland.

“I am delighted that these hospitals include both Crosshouse and Ayr.”

There are approximately 3,400 bedside units which can use Hospedia televisions across six Scottish hospitals, costing patients £7.90 each day.

All other hospitals in Scotland will continue to have existing TV services provided by the local health board free of charge.

Scotland is in lockdown. Shops are closing and newspaper sales are falling fast. We’re not exaggerating when we say that the future of the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, and the vital local news service we’ve provided since 1853, is under threat.

Please consider supporting the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald in whatever way you can – by paying just 90p for a copy of the paper, when you’re shopping for essential supplies for yourself and others, or by subscribing to our e-edition here.
