There are now 288 patients with coronavirus in Ayrshire and Arran.

This is an increase of 21 since yesterday.

There are now 3,961 positive cases across Scotland, however this is an undestimate and the true number of people with the virus is estimated to be over 100,000.

Two more deaths have been reported bringing the national total to 222.

The First Minister said these numbers were "artificially low, compared to figures to be released tomorrow and Wednesday".

There are 1,599 in hospital for COVID-19, with 199 people being treated in ICU.

Following the resignation of the chief medical officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood, after it was revealed she had flouted her own guidance by visiting her second home more than once, today her interim replacement was announced.

Dr Gregor Smith, a GP who has been deputy CMO for the last five years, answered questions at the daily press briefing this afternoon.

He said: "It is incredibly important the whole population of Scotland plays its part in helping us save lives."

Health secretary Jeane Freeman said: "Our response to covid19 requires a huge effort across all areas of health and social care."
