Police are appealing to the public after a man was arrested in connection with the theft of prescription drugs from a storage unit in Ayrshire.

Officers issued the warning after police received a report that a quantity of Diazepam tablets, bottles of Morphine, Pregablin tablets and Nitrazpam tablets had been stolen from a storage unit.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged for alleged involvement in the theft of the medication from a storage unit in Kilmarnock.

He has been released on an undertaking to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Nathan Calderwood said: “The drugs stolen could have potentially serious or fatal consequences if they are taken by anyone for whom they are not prescribed.

“We have been carrying out enquiries in the Ayrshire area to trace the stolen items and I would urge anyone who comes across any discarded medication to hand it into their local police office.

“I would also ask anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen medication to contact Kilmarnock Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 0930 of the 18th April."
