A PERSON was rescued from the water near Saltcoats Harbour, after a huge emergency response. 

Rescue teams from Ardrossan, Largs and Ayr were joined by a coastguard rescue helicopter and Troon RNLI to the incident around 4pm today.

The person was taken to Crosshouse Hospital after they were pulled from the water. 

A spokesperson for the HM Coasguard told the Herald: "Ardrossan, Largs and Ayr Coastguard were called out and assisted by Troon RNLI and the coastguard helicopter to rescue a person from the water.

"The person was taken to Crosshouse Hospital."
