Mirren McClelland, aged seven, from Saltcoats, has recently been litter picking in the area whilst out her daily walk during lockdown.

Mirren and her parents Martin McClelland and Terri Beatie have been walking through the Auchenharvie Nature Trail every day, where they noticed there was a lot of litter that had been dumped in the forest.

Mirren decided that she wanted to start litter picking to help clean up the nature trail.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Dad Martin said: “At first we just started going through the Auchenharvie Forest for our daily walk and we noticed how much rubbish there was.

“We started taking plastic bags with us to pick some of the rubbish up and then after a few days we started using black bin bags because there was just so much of it.”

Martin explained that when they first started their daily walk, there was a large amount of waste material, but since they have begun the clean-up, it has improved.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

He said: “There is a bin at the top and bottom of the trail for dog poo and other rubbish, but people just seem to be throwing their stuff away.”

Mirren has been enjoying her daily walk and doing her bit for the environment.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

She said: “I love the adventure and seeing all the nature.”
