A NEW website is allowing fans of football clubs in Ayrshire to donate the price of a matchday ticket to their favourite team.

Ruaridh Kilgour, who owns a social media marketing business in the sports gambling industry set up the site, Donate a Ticket, after the postponement of Scottish football in mid-March.

Ruaridh said: “I had a lot more time on my hands and started the project to support my club, Raith Rovers whilst they were not receiving any revenue through gate receipts.

“Liam Darling and I decided there was no reason we couldn’t expanded to all Scottish teams, so Liam designed the website to accommodate all 42 SPFL clubs.

“We went live on March 27 with just Raith Rovers and in the first 24 hours they’d raised over £1,000 with fans donating tickets for what would’ve been the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup Final that weekend.

“Stuart Cosgrove mentioned it on the radio show Off the Ball that weekend which led to an enquiry from SWPL club Glasgow City and thereafter it began to snowball in the lower divisions with a number of Lowland League and East of Scotland clubs signing up and raising a significant amount of money.

“I’m really happy the platform has been able to help clubs at all levels. If anything, the money might mean more to clubs in the Juniors than it does in the SPFL.

“It’s free for all clubs involved and there’s no commission taken by me on any donation. It’s a non-profit project I’ve put my own money in to to help as many clubs as possible in Scotland and at the time of writing it’s raised over £25,000 between 60 clubs.”
