A SALTCOATS man is offering window cleaning services free to the over 65s and those with a disability or severe lack of mobility.

Jim Dale, a window cleaner based on Manse Road, Saltcoats, has said that he’s willing to clean windows free of charge for those who are unable to clean their own.

Jim, who runs JD Cleaning Services, wants every member of the Three Towns community to be able to look out of their windows whilst we’re stuck inside, enduring the lockdown.

He said: “I’m doing it because of coronavirus, all these people sitting around the house and not seeing out the window because they’ve not had them cleaned in ages.

“We had all those storms back at the beginning of the year and then it was straight into this. Everyone’s got a right to look out their windows.”

The 49-year-old was keen to help out the community in some way, but couldn’t get involved with most volunteering schemes because they all involved some level of personal contac.

Due to underlying health conditions, Jim felt that it was not appropriate for him to participate.

After pondering over how he could help, Jim realised the answer was under his nose the entire time.

He said: “I was thinking if I cannae help out with the voluntary stuff going on, what can I do?

“I’ve got to look at the bigger picture. I thought I can do the windows, there’s no other window cleaners doing it and I’ve got my van out there and I’ve got no work on just now.

“I’ve done 12 so far just advertising in supermarkets, but I’m wanting to get the word out there and do more. Especially to those who maybe can’t afford it, I don’t want people taking advantage.”

Window cleaning allows him to help out the public from a distance. He’d use his own van and equipment and, as it’s just the outside windows he’d be cleaning, he won’t come into contact with anyone.

Jim is wary of taking business from other window cleaners and so he said that if you’ve got a regular window cleaner then he would not be able to do your windows.

“I’m not here to take other folks business. If you’ve got other guys doing it, then I’ll not do it.”
