MORE than 100 people have downloaded a new app to help them order essential groceries in the Three Towns during lockdown.

The Stevenston Convenience Store app has been up and running for just over a week ago, and already it has been used to make 68 free deliveries.

The idea was conjured up by selfless shop owner Robin Bawa,33, who runs the Stevenston Post Office and store.

Robin acted quickly when his customers, many of whom are elderly and vulnerable, were forced to self isolate.

He introduced free deliveries, and ensured his shop was fully stocked of the essentials that many were panic buying from supermarket shelves.

Now he has made life even easier for families in lockdown, with an app giving them full choice of options to buy and a delivery run reach day between 10am-6pm.

Robin told the Herald: “It’s been phenomenal, we only just launched on Monday, May 4 and already we’ve had 176 downloads and we’ve carried out 68 deliveries through the app.”

Robin himself is out every day carrying out the deliveries, and he is doing so out of his own pocket.

He added: “All the deliveries are free and there is no service charge.

“We understand that cash is tight for a lot of people just now. We’re more than happy to do that.”

As well as running the app, Robin has been focused on keeping his shop stocked, and prices down.

Robin, who has three young kids, said: “It’s not just about the elderly or the vulnerable, it’s difficult right now for parents trying to keep children occupied.

“I visit three cash and carry’s each week to make sure we have everything that is in demand.”

You can download the App on iPhones and Android phones now.
