A man has been charged after a driver was caught going at around 130mph near to Ardrossan.
The incident happened around 12.45pm on Wednesday, May 13 when officers on a mobile patrol in an unmarked vehicle, became aware of a red coloured Ford Focus travelling at high speed on the road.
Officers followed the vehicle which was travelling northbound towards Ardrossan on the A78 and observed the speed of the vehicle in excess of 120mph.
The 26-year-old driver was stopped and charged in connection with road traffic offences.
Inspector Greg Dinnie of the Ayrshire Road Policing Unit said: “The dangers of speeding are well known and are a contributing factor in many serious and fatal road crashes. This reckless behaviour displayed in this instance showed utter disregard for the safety of other road users.
"I regret to say that this is not an isolated incident and in recent times the Ayrshire Road Policing have dealt with a number of drivers using quieter roads to speed and risk their own lives, and the lives of others.
"Most people using the roads do so with due regard for the speed limits and driving conditions, but I would appeal to the minority to slow down and in doing so, reduce the chances of collisions and the danger to others.”
