Three men have been charged after reports of anti social behaviour using quad and off road bikes in New Cumnock.

Concerned residents contacted police reporting that vehicles were being driven on forestry land near Mansfield Road.

Officers investigated and identified four vehicles and the men suspected to be involved, aged 27, 30 and 43.

Inspector Christine Boyd, East Ayrshire Locality Policing Team, said: “Incidents like this do not only cause alarm and distress but have the potential to cause serious injury and damage to property.”

The men were charged with road traffic offences and issued written warnings for their alleged involvement, this week.

It was reported that the quad and off road bikes were involved in anti social behaviour and have been causing alarm and annoyance to the local community.

Section 126 Anti Social Behaviour etc. (S) Act 2004 allows officers to warn the owner or driver of a vehicle when it is alleged that they have been involved in this type of behaviour.

If the men repeat this behaviour within 12 months officers have the powers to seize any vehicle being used whilst offending.

Inspector Boyd said: “Local officers received reports from concerned residents in the New Cumnock area. They reported that vehicles were being used regularly in the area including quad and off road bikes.

“My officers have been working with the assistance of the local community to identify those responsible.

“Officers will continue to monitor the area and take appropriate action against those involved in anti social behaviour.”

If you are aware of anti social behaviour in your area this can be reported to your local police by calling 101 (Always 999 in an emergency) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where anonymity can be maintained.”
