An alleged assailant has been arrested after a man was shot dead in his home in Ardrossan.

A 42-year-old man was gunned down in a home in Nithsdale Road on Sunday after the man burst into the property with a firearm before making their escape.

The victim was found at the scene having suffered serious injuries, with police confirming he passed away a short time later.

A 46-year-old woman was also present during incident, who is not understood to have been injured.

Police have confirmed a 42-year-old man has now been arrested for alleged involvement in the shocking incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.50 pm on Sunday, 24 May, 2020 a 42-year-old man and 46-year-old woman were within a house in Nithsdale Road, Ardrossan when a man entered the house and discharged what is believed to be a firearm before leaving the house.

“The 42-year-old man was then found with serious injuries and died at the scene a short time later.

“A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what happened."
