A second man has now been charged in connection with the death of Paul Cairns.
Another man, aged 50, was arrested by police, after a 42-year-old appeared in court this week charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
He is scheduled to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court tomorrow [Thursday, May 28].
Officers were called to a house in Nithsdale Road in the town around 4.50pm on May 24, following a report of a firearm being discharged.
Paul was found injured at the scene but died a short time later.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with his death and was scheduled to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday [Tuesday, May 26].
"A second man, aged 50, has also been arrested and charged in connection with his death.
"He is scheduled to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court tomorrow [Thursday, May 28]."
