A BRAVE mum who battled cancer whilst she was pregnant wants to highlight the incredible work of the Ayrshire charity who supported her through treatment – by spreading a positive message that rocks.

Fiona Ramsay, 38, wants to spread the word of Ayrshire Cancer Supports vital service in the hope they can continue to raise enough funds for a new Ayr centre for patients.

The music teacher from Prestwick started to paint rocks in her garden for her tot Cameron, who is 18 months old, to keep her occupied through lockdown.

But after seeing a similar idea in Renfrew, she started to leave the bright rocks along the promenade to spread uplifting messages of kindness.

A few weeks later she had set up her page ‘Prestwick Rocks’ to spread the word.

Fiona told the Advertiser “There were a few rocks lying about the garden. I decided to paint a few for my son, and I found I really enjoyed it.”

“I took them along the promenade for children to find when they were out on their daily exercise. Then people started to message me asking if I was selling them, so I asked them if they could make a donation to Ayrshire Cancer Support.

“A lady I knew, Estelle Little did lots of work for Ayrshire Cancer Research and recently lost her fight against cancer.

“I wanted raise money in her memory toward giving ACS a new centre in Ayr.”

For Fiona, Ayrshire Cancer Support is a charity close to her heart after she was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 26 weeks pregnant.

Despite the devastating news, she battled on through treatment and was given the all clear just before little Cameron was born.

Fiona said: “I fell pregnant and at 26 weeks I found a lump which I was told was breast cancer.

“Cameron was fine and I was fine.

“But my treatment nurse told me about Ayrshire Cancer Support. They had a counselling service, and offered free therapies, including a back massage by someone who was specially trained.

“They’re probably the best massages I’ve ever had. And just what I needed whilst I was pregnant and facing cancer.”

The courageous mum faced cancer with a positive mindset, and thanks to her amazing support network.

She hopes the messages on the rocks will bring people joy, and give the charity that helped her so much a boost.

She added “I had no choice but to be positive, I had to be positive for my son too.

“I started to paint the rocks to make people smile, but if they can raise vital funds towards the new centre then that’s even better.”

“The new facility will be a great source of comfort for so many people getting treatment for cancer.”

Since Fiona started, people have been sending her screen shots of her donations and she has raised nearly £300.
