Dalry RESIDENTS are angry over ongoing issues at Lynn Glen as visitors arrive to the newly opened Fairy Trail.

Last month the Herald reported residents’ frustration over the car park closure at Lynn Glen, causing cars to be displaced on to nearby streets and blocking roads between Trinity Drive and St Andrews Gardens.

Now the opening of a Fairy Trail at the beauty spot has sparked fresh concerns over the amount of visitors arriving to the area.

A resident of Trinity Drive said: “Even if they opened the car park it couldn’t accommodate the amount of people arriving. These people have basically created a theme park and put it on Facebook so people are coming from all over. There’s sometimes 50 cars a day.

“Every time we phone the police they come three hours later when everyone’s gone. They drop poo bags everywhere, one guy uprooted a tree, others pee in the pavement. It’s ruining our lives.”

Residents fear the situation will worsen as lockdown restrictions ease.

The resident continued: “North Ayrshire Council refuse to open the car park. Police tell us they have no powers to stop visitors coming as everything is advisory.

“We need residents only parking in the street. St Andrews Gardens and Lidl’s car park are rammed. It’s time planning was in place to accommodate this.”

Another Dalry local said: “There seems to be a lot of people using the path with social distancing an issue for starters and the layby just before the traffic lights is in full use with up to five cars at a time parking.

“My greatest fear is that there may be an accident when the traffic lights change and someone is trying to get out of a space or reverse out of the car park.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of issues in this area. We closed the car park in line with Scottish Government guidelines and put out no-parking cones in the adjacent streets. There is no planning permission involved nor any other planning interest.

“Police Scotland are monitoring the situation and will take appropriate action relating to illegal parking.

“We expect to re-open a number of our car parks – including the Lynn Glen one – later this week when the First Minister confirms the next stage of lockdown’”
