Ardrossan starlet Billy Gilmour will miss the remainder of the season after picking up a knee injury during Chelsea’s victory against Crystal Palace.
The 19-year-old has already had surgery following the injury and will now face up to four months on the sidelines. The injury also rules Gilmour out of making his Scotland debut under Steve Clarke in September’s Euro play-offs against Israel.
Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard, said: "Billy Gilmour has had an operation on his knee this morning and we estimate he'll be out for somewhere between three and four months unfortunately.
"We're all disappointed but I've spoken to him and he's a tough lad.”
Gilmour has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season with the Blues and received plaudits for his performances before lockdown against Liverpool and Everton and he was awarded man of the match in both games.
