Irvine’s first big beach clean since lockdown started easing has been hailed a huge success.
Around 40 adults and children turned up to do their bit staying happily in their own social bubbles during the Coastwatch organised event on Saturday, July 18.
And all the volunteers have been thanked for giving up their time and energies for the beach - with youngsters handed out certificates on the day.
Anne Dunlop Coastwatch secretary and trustee said: “The children were a delight and it was great to see the smiles on both the adults and children’s faces after what has been a very strange few months for all of us.
“Each child received a free packet of crisps, a soft drink and their own Beach Clean certificate when they returned their litter pickers.
“We also had a visit from Dr Philippa Whitford, MP for Central Ayrshire who enthusiastically joined in the Beach Clean.
“A lot of people were asking when we might organise another Beach Clean, so that’s definitely something we are thinking about for the future.
“A big thanks to all our volunteers for giving up their Saturday morning, and also a shout-out of thanks to Ronnie Porter from Irvine Beat FM who volunteers for events with Coastwatch.”
Well done to all the amazing volunteers
