Work will soon set on installing new outdoor gym equipment in Kilwinning.

Kilwinning Community Events have now confirmed that the planned enhancements to the community play area in McGavin Park, together with an array of outdoor gym equipment will commence Monday, August 10.

There will be some access restrictions at times but the existing play area will remain open.

Cllr Donald Reid, chair of Kilwinning Community Events said: “We are sorry for the installation delay caused by COVID-19 but we have been working flat out to get the installation in as soon as we could as everyone appreciates the outdoors a little more now.

“The equipment is all now all under manufacture and then onto the paint shop”

“The investment has only been possible through a multitude of grant funders including NAC CIF funding, Kilwinning Charitable Trust, Landtrust and the advice of North Ayrshire Council.

“The £100,000 improvement plan has been three years to get to this stage with the old tennis court becoming a modern outdoor facility with the teens and above gym equipment linked into the Wicksteed play app, picnic benches and seating, additional play equipment and a Zip Slide.

“Additional footpaths were installed in advance last October to make sure the site is accessible for all users.”
