A BID to develop a self-catering holiday getaway in the scenic Galloway forest has been submitted.

An application for accommodation at Creeside Farm on the A714 five-miles south of Barrhill

The plans for the development near council boundary at Wheeb Bridge would accompany an existing cottage at the farm which has been in operation for holidaymakers since last year.

A statement from the farm owners said: “As we are surrounded by forestry this limits our ability to extend our stocking numbers so diversification is our only option to survive and build a future for our family.

“Since May 2019 our self contained shepherd’s hut (which South Ayrshire Council have permission for) has been sighted in our field, with fabulous views towards the Galloway Hills and overlooking the River Cree.

Ayr Advertiser:

“Depending on the time of year, sheep & lambs will graze around the hut too! We have provided an ideal place for people to stay, seeking a peaceful, relaxing getaway in Scotland’s most breath-taking and dramatic landscape. “With no WiFi and limited mobile signal this really is a ‘back to basics’ experience. From here you are able to relax and while away the time looking out for the abundance of birds and other wildlife.

“It is so important to us to be granted full and permanent planning permission so we can plan and develop our self catering enterprise now.”

The hut was carefully designed to maximise the use of space while providing a welcoming base to relax in, or return to after a day’s exploring. It contains a double bed, table and chairs, wood burning stove, kettle for an early morning cup of tea, radio, books, board games and most importantly binoculars. Solar powered electricity is used for lighting.”

The farm owners added: "Our farm is well placed for our guests to explore the local and diverse areas on our doorstep. Since opening the doors on 01/05/19 we have welcomed guests to stay for over 150 nights coming from all corners of the UK and much further afield; South Africa, Russia, Germany, France and Belgium, and all spending money within the local economy.

"Having the shepherds hut has been a huge bonus for our farming enterprise proving a much needed additional source of income throughout the year.

"We have had fabulous support and encouragement from local businesses, won numerous awards and been featured in National and local media giving a real boost to the area. This project was only made possible due to a LEADER grant from South Ayrshire Council, and a condition of this was that the project ran for at least 5 years or we have to repay the grant monies."
