A BID to build a £3.1million sheltered housing complex for people with additional support needs has now been approved.

The council’s plans to erect 15 single storey terraced dwellings at the former Caley Court unit

in Stevenston was given the go-ahead by the planning department last week.

The £3.1million plans include one staff base where care workers will be stationed 24 hours per day to provide support and assistance for the residents.

North Ayrshire Council previously said the proposed redevelopment would see the former sheltered housing complex completely redeveloped to provide modern, supported accommodation for residents who have additional support needs.

North Ayrshire’s Cabinet Member for Place, Councillor Jim Montgomerie, said: “Our ambitious council housing programme has already delivered hundreds of modern, energy-efficient homes across North Ayrshire.

“We are well on track

to build more than 1,300 new council houses by 2024.”

Councillor Montgomerie added: “The Caley Court development will be an important one for us and will provide high quality supported accommodation which will meet tenants’ needs.”
