HNC Administration and IT student, Audrey Scott, from the Kilwinning Campus, has been presented with the Jean Parker-Brown Memorial Fund award this year from Foundation Scotland.
Jean Parker-Brown emigrated to New York in 1968 with her family. She was a full-time homemaker but decided to continue her education, and at the age of 40, earned a diploma from business school before working in the banking industry.
Jean never lost her love for her native Scotland and especially her hometown of Dalry. Her family established The Jean Parker-Brown Memorial Fund in honour of her memory.
The fund is primarily designed to provide financial support to mature women from Ayrshire, and in particular from the Dalry area, who wish to further their education, just as Jean did.
Audrey said: “I am thankful and grateful to the Jean Parker-Brown Memorial Fund for their help and to my lecturers for putting me forward for this award.
“It has allowed me to invest in driving lessons as being able to drive will be a great help towards me finding and securing employment, that will in turn help enhance opportunities for my young family.”
