RAINBOWS and Brownies in Ardrossan have been keeping busy during lockdown - with outdoor group sessions proving very popular since restrictions were lifted.

The 3rd Ardrossan Rainbows and Brownies group is run by Kerry and Shelley Elliott alongside leaders Lorna Wardrope, Maggie Agnew and young leaders Katie Hamilton and Lucy Byers and despite a difficult time, they are making the most of what they can do.

Kerry explained: “During COVID 19 I’m sure you can imagine it has been difficult to keep our girls interested in Girlguiding and they have been out of the unit now since mid March.

“Our girls have been completing badgework at home and attending online Zoom meetings where we have been playing bingo, completing Lego build challenges for their construction badge and drawing and crafts for their drawing badge.”

The girls have been getting out and about in recent weeks and Kerry explained what they had been getting up to in the local community.

She said: “During our first two weeks back each group completed building a sandcastle challenge and played games on Saltcoats beach. The leaders love being back and so do the girls.

“We have had many people walking along the beach stop us and tell us how amazing it is to see Girlguiding in the community and to see children out playing again.

“This really has boosted our choice to start running the units again as soon as we could.

“We can’t wait until indoor meetings can be continued, however, we are enjoying the experience of doing something different outdoors.”

The girls have completed badges such as, Spring Challenge, Summer Challenge, World Challenge, Too Cool for School Challenge and many more.

They have also had two girls complete all 12 of their interest badges and the leaders would like to congratulate Ella McPhee and Bethany Wardrope on completing these badges.

If you are interested in registering your girl for girlguiding in the Three Towns please visit the girlguiding website and click to register your daughter.

Unit leaders will be in touch when their units re-open.

Well done to the girls, from everyone at the Herald.
