KILWINNING Football Academy hope to take over a council-run football ground.

A community asset transfer request has been made by Kilwinning Community Football Academy to transfer either ownership or a long term lease of Almswall Pavilion and football ground to the club.

The group say they hope to expand opportunities for residents to participate in sport at an affordable price without financial barriers in place.

Plans were discussed by the town’s community councillors during their latest meeting last week via Zoom on Thursday [August 20]

North Ayrshire Council officer Kimberly Kirkwood said: “The park which they’re looking to asset transfer, they’re not quite sure whether it’s to be ownership or lease, but it was originally run by KA Leisure and they’re giving it up as an asset.

“They’ve given up ownership or lease of it which KFA have now pursued and its in the final stages now. It is fully processed and been spoken about for months, I know they put in the expression of interest years ago, its been a long process for them.”

Kilwinning Community Football Academy aims to use football to engage and inspire people to build a better life for themselves with dedicated staff delivering football coaching, educational programmes and personal development.
