A CENTENARIAN who celebrated reaching 100 under lockdown has said a big thanks to everyone who kept his postman busy after reaching the milestone amid the global pandemic.

Wallace Wallace Jones BEM wanted to say a big thanks for all the generosity and kind words after receiving 78 cards.

The Kilbirnie man said: “I wanted to thank people at this time after June as the postman has only just returned to normal delivery, we’ve had so many.

“I want to send grateful thanks for the 78 cards, flowers, pot plants and numerous very welcome gifts on reaching 100 years in June. Extra special thanks to seven members of the old kirk who gave outside the party on the day concluding with Angus the piper, and Elma. and I say. Thanks everyone who noticed our 22 wedding anniversary.”

Wallace is known in the local community as a church organist and in 2015, he was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours with a BEM for services to music in North Ayrshire.

He and wife Helen Cook, both from the Garnock Valley, married more than 70 years ago.

The couple, who live in Kilbirnie, first met when they both attended the same secondary school in Dalry.
