Local band Voldo have put together a music video featuring North Ayrshire dancers.

The video, which was released on Friday, August 28, is for their Digital Dancers single.

A duo from Saltcoats’ Dance Mafia, Carlie and Gabrielle participated in the video and can be seen busting some shapes alongside footage from the 80s of Irvine breakdancer Mark Auldy Anderson who is now in his 50s.

Another dancer who stepped up was Melanie ShellToe Leck from Glasgow-based Flyin’ Jalapenos Crew.

We published an article in July on the band, including a statement about Voldo’s search for dancers and it seems it was successful.

It’s something Nunny from Voldo was thankful for.

He said: “One thing that has really helped us was the mention in the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, (thank you for that!) as the two girls Carlie and Gabrielle from Dance Mafia that you ran an article about contacted us and wanted to be part of the video. We had several other dancers from all over the country send us footage too, which was superb!

“It’s so brilliant to get local people involved with this project.”

Voldo only got back together this year after a 17-year-long hiatus, but they are making up for lost time at quite a pace.

In May they released an album, Sophia, which has been nominated for Scottish Album of the Year Awards 2020.

Their video for Digital Dancers has already received some positive reviews from industry figures, with Badly Drawn Boy saying “Great stuff, like Joy Division with a groove,” and English singer-songwriter Wendy James said, “you’ve got a real hook with this song, tons and tons of luck with it!!! You’re on to something here.”

Psychedelic rock band The Lovely Eggs said: “It’s great Nunny! Good lad! Well done chuck.”

The track is now available to listen to on all major digital

platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp etc.

Nunny says Digital Dancers has been well received on the airwaves, saying: “Local and international radio stations have been very supportive of the

new track.

“We’ve managed to get on the radio everyday of the week so far and have already had a few more stations confirm it has been added to their playlists.”
