AN ARDROSSAN man wants to help his family in Kilwinning after a devastating

blaze ripped through their garden, destroying furniture including a hot tub.

James Walker was gutted to hear that his cousin Kay Roy had endured a terrifying ordeal when Pennyburn firebugs lit bins on fire which then spread to the family’s home in Sundrum Place last month.

The fire left a trail of destruction burning through garden furniture, children’s toys and a hot tub which was enjoyed by Kay her husband Stuart and their five children on Monday, August 24.

The family woke up to find their belongings ruined but it could have been much worse.

Now James has started a fundraiser to help cover the cost of the torched items which were enjoyed by the family throughout lockdown.

The 30-year-old from Ardrossan has set a target of £700.

But he will be happy to give any small contribution to help his family out.

He told the Times: “Kat and her husband Stuart have about five jobs between them, they are always working trying to provide for their kids.

“It’s devastating what has happened to them, so I thought I’ll set up a wee page to raise something to help.

“The garden was just done up for the kids during lockdown.

“There was a brand new hot tub, bbq, new decking a new fence, all the kids outdoor toys and a gazebo.

“The hot tub was the most expensive thing I thought if we could try and cover that at least.

“The kids really enjoyed it.”

James has already seen how the young family have had to fork out to get a new fence in place so their children could enjoy being back out in the garden.

And he has hit out at the “sick” person or people who are responsible with his cousin unable to sleep at night.

He added: “It must have been terrifying for them. They were all in their beds when it happened

“Kat has been struggling to sleep at night in case they go back.

“Just after it happened, Stuart was going to leave for work but he came back because of how scared his wife was.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Herald this week said: “Enquiries are ongoing.”
