A BIG thanks has been paid to the local community whose donations surpassed the target to fund bulbs for the HMS Dasher Memorial Garden.

The Saltcoats Ardrossan and Stevenston Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland said it was grateful to the Three Towns community and others further afield who contributed to enable them to improve the garden.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Volunteers will be needed to assist council gardeners to prepare the ground for bulbs this month.

The branch, however, announced that due to the virus the usual Remembrance Sunday, November 8, will not be possible.

There will be no street parades commemorating the memory of the bravely fallen heroes, but there is hope that a short service followed by laying of the wreaths will proceed at both the Saltcoats War Memorial at 11am and the Stevenston War Memorial at 1.30pm.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

The Ardrossan Churches Group leads the community remembrance commemorations in Ardrossan and it is understood that no street parade will take place but a COVID appropriate church service will be held in the E.U. Congregational Church at 1pm following which there will be laying of wreaths at the Ardrossan Garden of Remembrance at approximately 1.30pm.

The Scottish Poppy Appeal has also suffered this year due to the pandemic and so the branch is reminding people to support the cause which provides vital life-changing support to the Armed Forces community living in Scotland.
