A NEW restaurant could be set to open in a former Saltcoats bookies if plans are approved.

Plans to change the use of the former William Hill on Countess Street to become a quality sit in food venue were given the go ahead this month.

Planning documents state: “The proposed development will see this vacant property transformed into a quality restaurant.

“Access to the new restaurant will continue to be from the existing entranceway direct from the street.

“Externally the only change will be the erection of a ventilation flue at the rear of the property. This will be constructed to industry standard and be fixed to the wall with vibration proof fastenings which will minimise any possible noise from vibrations and at the same time protect the fabric of the building.

“It is anticipated that opening hours will be Sunday to Thursday 10am-11pm and Friday and Saturday 10am-12 midnight.

“The new restaurant will see the regeneration of a vacant property on a pedestrian zone within the public realm. It will introduce a use which will animate the street, create activity and vitality. It will extend the active hours of the street into the evening and at night and in the winter months the splay of light from the restaurant windows will illuminate the pedestrian area creating a sense of well-being and security.

“The proposed development will contribute to the range of dining experience available within the town and make a positive contribution to the creation of a vibrant and welcoming town and a quality place.”
