Contract tracing is now underway at an Ardrossan secondary school after a confirmed case of coronavirus.

The test and protect team has told a number of individuals to self-isolate at Ardrossan Academy after an infection - insisting the risk to pupils remains low.

Ayrshire and Arran health bosses added that every measure is being taken to protect kids and staff.

A letter sent to parents and seen by the Herald states: "NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Test and Protect team is conducting contact tracing excercise in relation to a confirmed case of coronavirus [COVID-19]. The risk to pupils is very low.

"Close contacts are being contacted by the NHS Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure you that every measure is being taken to protect pupils, their families and staff."
