A driver ‘scuffed against’ a school crossing patrol last week, nearly hitting schoolkids.

Between 8.30am and 9am on Thursday, October 29, a car drove through adults helping Beith Primary schoolkids cross Glebe Road.

Caitlyn Graham, a member of the patrol, said: “This could of ended up a lot worse.
“What looked like a Hyundai Tucson drove [through] me at a fair speed scuffing itself [off] me and nearly hitting the kids I was crossing. The car never stopped and continued to drive on.”

Because of the speed of the car, the patrol were not able to get its registration place or identify the driver.
Thankfully no injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “I can confirm we had a report this morning that a silver M/V NFD driving in Glebe Road, Beith has very lightly scuffed against a school crossing patrol who was at locus assisting schoolkids.

“No injury was sustained by any person and no reports of children being endangered have been received.

“It is a reminder for all to drive appropriately when passing schools and be aware of other road users including pedestrians.”

Any witnesses should contact 101, quoting incident number 0691 of October 29.
