The Fit Ayrshire Dads founder was delighted to secure first place in a 135-mile race.

Kev Brown, founder of the group said he couldn’t believe it after securing the top spot for the SBF team in the epic and enduring GB Ultras 135mile virtual challenge.

He previously climbed Goatfell four times earlier in the year, after a triple climb back in 2018, to raise funds for a night out for NHS workers from the ICU unit and in memory of their late friend and member Steven Gilmour.

And on receiving the shield last week after the challenge earlier in the month, Kev said it felt amazing to end up taking the top prize.

He said: “It was a bit of an epic weekend. It was run by a group called the GB Ultras, an ultra running community, to complete 135 miles in as quick a time as possible.

“So the plan was to try and finish top 10 and get a good result for my SBF [Scott Brown Fitness] assault race team and I started on the Saturday morning at 8am. I had three runs on the Saturday totalling 65 miles.

“The main guy we had expected to win it had pulled out so knew all I had to do was keep going so it was awesome to get it done. When I finished that night and looked on the leader board saw I was in front which was a bit of a surprise.

“I had a chat with my brother Scott that morning and he was saying “go for it, you’re in with a good chance here”.

“I basically just ran about Ayrshire. I went a different route each time towards Troon, then went out about Kilwinning and Irvine and the last time away towards Largs.

“Every time you put your details in the system, it updated so I could see I was out in front and the messages from the guys following it was pushing me on.

“I was left with the 70 miles on the Sunday and I knew it was going to be a big ask for me as I had never done that distance before. I went out in the early hours of the morning got my first run done and then it was just a bit of a battle to finish the final 50 on the Sunday and try and stay ahead.

“I finished on the Sunday and uploaded my result then saw I had won it – I couldn’t believe it. It really done me in, I was absolutely burst, I got cramp on the Sunday, but knew I was so close.

“It was good to get this for my brother and his team.”
