A 'cluster' of coronavirus cases has been confirmed at Arran High with contacts being asked to self-isolate.

The positive COVID-19 tests at the school follows an outbreak around a local business which has temporarily closed due to the virus.

After months of being virus-free, the island now has the highest level seven-day rate per 100,000 population, of 100 and over.

Lynne McNiven, NHS Ayrshire and Arran's joint director of Public Health said contact tracing was underway within Arran High School following 'a small cluster of cases who have tested positive for coronavirus'.

Yesterday, it was confirmed there has been an outbreak around the Little Rock Café, in Brodick.

On October 21, the Herald reported contact tracing was underway on the Isle of Arran after a number of positive coronavirus cases were confirmed having been 'virus free' for four months.

Lynne McNiven, Joint Director of Public Health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is conducting contact tracing within Arran High School in the North Ayrshire Council area.

"Individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days following contact with a small cluster of cases who have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."
