A WOMAN who has been battling with her mental health is threatening to sue Tanyard Muirkirk Medical Group over her treatment at Cumnock Health Centre, who struck her off their register after a disagreement.

Janet Mcilwain, from Cumnock, who has been dealing with the fallout from a disastrous relationship, was told that she would no longer be seen by staff at the centre because of a disagreement about her medication.

Janet was furious, saying: “Make sure you get a good lawyer, because you’re going to need it.”

Janet, 52, spoke to staff at medical centre after receiving an email from the centre, in which there had been some confusion over the medicine she was to receive.

The email stated that she was to receive her medication immediately, something staff at the medical centre disputed, this caused Janet great distress.

She admits when she spoke to them she “went a bit off the script because my mental health was in a bit of a state, I went absolutely mental.”

Days later she received a letter from the NHS informing her that Tanyard Medical Practice had asked them “to remove you from their patient list because of a breakdown in the patient-doctor relationship.”

She says staff at the centre were aware of her mental health issues and so should have been more forgiving when the incident occurred.

Eddie Fraser, director of health and social care at NHS Ayrshire and Arran responded by saying: “All staff within healthcare settings have the right to work in a safe environment, free from violence and aggression. Acts of violence and aggression directed towards staff are unacceptable - whatever form they take and whatever reasons are given.

“It is not part of the duties of any employee to accept or endure violent or abusive behaviour, including foul language. NHS Ayrshire & Arran will fully support any member of staff who feels that they have been abused or intimidated whilst undertaking their work activity.”
