A YOUNG man was let off with a warning after his firework hit a female on the head before causing her hair to burst into flames.

Brendan Davidson, of Clark Place, Saltcoats, was found guilty back in January of culpably and recklessly discharging the firework on a common footpath area “with utter disregard for the consequences”.

Court papers state 21-year-old Davidson let off the firework in close proximity to a group of people in the Knox Place and New England Place area.

However, the rocket then struck a female on the head causing her hair to ignite to her alarm during the incident back in November 5, 2018.

Davidson returned to the dock last week [Tuesday November 17] at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court after being found guilty on January 9.with sentencing deferred amid the pandemic.

Defence solicitor Neil Macpherson told Sheriff Shirley Foran his client had previously appeared at trial before a “lengthy period of deferment”following the events in 2018.

While Sheriff Foran reminded Davidson the offence was a “serious matter”, she admonished him before he was allowed to leave the court.
