A Three Towns father and son will get a second chance to win by testing their general knowledge on a TV quiz show tonight.

Hugh and son Kevin, from Ardrossan, were contestants on the BBC’s Pointless quiz show.

They appeared on the show last night, and get another go this evening at 5.15pm on BBC Two.

Hugh, 61, is retired from the Fire Service where he worked for 30 years.

He said he is now ‘enjoying life in the quiet lane’.

Presenter Alexander Armstrong asked him about what he likes to do in the ‘beautiful part of the world’ where he is from.

Hugh said he likes to read, holiday, do the garden and walk the dog.

The Ayrshire pair plumbed the depths of their knowledge to guess the answers nobody else could think of us part of the gameshow.

The first round was on the British Royal Family, with Pointless asking 100 people to name as many people in the line of succession to the throne as they could.

The contestants had to name anyone in the top 48 people in the line of succession to the UK throne, as published by Debrett's in May 2019.

Hugh went first. He said: "There's a few that I can see in my mind but names just seem to be slipping away.

"So, I think we'll go for Eugenie."

The answer bagged the Ayrshire pair a good score with 31 people naming the princess, who is tenth in line to the throne, in the gameshow's survey.

Big Celtic fan Kevin, 27, was up next.

He followed his dad into firefighting having grown up in and around his dad's station.

He said: "I kind of grew up around fire stations and stuff like that. The fire station my dad worked at wasn't far from the house so, you were there all the time.

"Probably on the worst podium, worst position, worst subject

"The first name that came up hasn't been said so may not even be right.

"I'm going to go George."

Unfortunately, Kevin's answer of Prince George scored too highly, with 76 of the 100 people asked naming the seven-year-old royal who is third in line to the throne.

This meant they did not make it through being knocked out in the first round on the BBC Channel One show. But they have another chance this evening as episode 48 airs at 5.15 on BBC Two.

Presented by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman, the episode, number 47 of series 24, aired at 5.15pm, Wednesday, November 25.
