The Garnock Valley has received a splash of colour in these dark times as rainbow coloured chairs are starting to appear.

This is part of an initiative by Radio City Association (RCA) and each chair is made from more than 500 recycled plastic milk cartons.

RCA have been working in partnership with a local dairy farmer in their ‘Electric Valley’ project.

Each bench has a unique QR Code providing a link to a Mental Health and Wellbeing Directory and to an App of walking routes that RCA have assisted in developing with Garnock Connections focusing on local heritage and nature.

Further benches throughout the Garnock Valley are planned.

RCA are also looking to assist in biodiversity to combat climate change as well as tackle food poverty in an innovative way by planting nearly 2000 trees as well as fruit trees, berries, wildflowers and brambles that will offer free access to fresh fruit for locals.

It is the aim that the benches will assist in keeping people active during pandemic and promote physical and mental wellbeing on RCA’s Covid Friendly Walking and Cycle Routes. It’s hoped that it allows for individuals to talk to each other in a socially distanced way and prevent social isolation.

Chair Gordon McGuinness said: “These chairs offer a colourful addition in these times of adversity; we believe that they will be valuable community assets for years to come.”

Support for the project has been received from the Scottish Government Supporting Communities Fund.
