The funeral of a much-loved school teacher and former junior footballer will be livestreamed today (Thursday, January 7) from St Peter in Chains Church in Ardrossan.
David McIlroy who taught at St Matthew’s, St Michael’s and in Kilwinning Academy died in hospital last month aged 69 after contracting coronavirus.
Tributes flooded in from pupils, past and present, as well as those who knew him on and off the pitch.

Under strict coronavirus rules only close family and friends will be able to attend the funeral with a maximum capacity of 20 allowed provided they adhere to physical distancing.
However, the church will livestream the Requiem Mass from 12.55pm ahead of a 1pm start.
After mass there will an Interment Service at Ardrossan Cemetery on Sorbie Road.
The funeral will be livestreamed on the church’s YouTube channel which can be accessed at saintpeterinchains.net.
