A NEW cycle and footpath could be set to connect the Garnock Valley.

Council chiefs plan to construct the cycle and pedestrian path link from National Cycling Network Route 7 to Lochshore Pitches in Beith.

The plans state work would include regrading, construction, resurfacing, with new street furniture including benches.

Plans state: “Planning permission is sought by the Economic Development and Regeneration Department who are actively trying to encourage more sustainable forms of travel throughout the Garnock Valley through the implementation of a series of Active Travel paths.

“The proposed development has been designed specifically to provide links between the town, the national cycle network and the area around Kilbirnie Loch, where other development has recently been approved at Kilbirnie Rugby Club.

“The application seeks approval for the construction of a 900 metre long pathway. The proposal also include directional/wayfinding signage to provide orientation and help users navigate their way to different areas such as the railway station and visitors centre.

“The majority of the proposed pathway is either at grade level or sited on low embankments to prevent and deep excavation into the existing ground.”
