A MAN who smashed up his mum’s house apologised to cops in the street after nearly spitting on one.

Paul Smith, 30, of Avil’s Hill Kilbirnie, admitted to threatening behaviour and assault last year before returning to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing last week .

The court heard Smith arrived under the influence at around 12.40am on April 13, 2020. When he was heard banging into things he was told to be quiet, and then told to get out the house.

Smith became irate and began shouting at his mother before throwing a tablet PC and smashing the table. He then picked up a chair, smashing the ceiling, smashing a hole in a door, punched the cupboards and made his way to the living room and fell against the TV unit.

His mother managed to usher him out the door where he smashed up garden furniture and damaged a Sky dish. The damage was around £400. When Smith returned to the scene at 2am, he then spat at police – narrowly missing one officer

Solicitor Simon Brown said his client was well-aware of the “appalling way to behave to his mother”, adding: “He met the police officer in the street and apologised.”

The sheriff fined Smith £700 with a £40 surcharge.
