DALRY Community Council is vying for a roundabout to be put in place at an accident hotspot in the town.
It was a busy virtual meeting of the community council last Monday night as members held it over a Zoom call due to the current lockdown restrictions.
And putting a roundabout in place at the junction of Kilwinning Road and Saltcoats Road was one of the items discussed.
Members raised concerns about the volume of traffic coming from both directions.
They are worried about potential accidents on this blackspot, which is even busier due to the new bypass to Beith which opened last year.
Council member Peter Stevens reported: “The community has a strong preference for a roundabout at the junction to reduce the risk of accidents. This is instead of the proposed plans to landscape the old flower beds, we think a roundabout would be a safer option.”
The meeting also heard from Graham Emans of North Ayrshire Council who talked about CCTV plans for the town.
There will be moveable cameras installed in Roche Way, Vennel Street, Lynn Avenue, Merksworth Avenue and Blair Road.
The community council is hoping to focus on some ways of promoting the heritage of the town looking at the historical characters and hosting events to encourage visitors once the lockdown is lifted.
Legendary Dalry witch Bessie Dunlop is one of the fascinating characters that the community council hopes will bring people to the town.
Peter went on: “The potential for annual events, to bring the community together and bring visitors to the town is important.”
The members also agreed to support planting a tree at the junction of Lynn Avenue and Townend Street.
The next council meeting is on February 22.
