A stolen car has been found abandoned on a country road in the Garnock Valley after it was reported missing yesterday.

Police received multiple calls from residents in the Garnock Street and Merksworth Avenue area of Dalry on Tuesday over reports that an individual was trying to break into vehicles and that a car had been stolen.

Police traced the stolen vehicle from the area to a road in Barmill but have yet to identify and charge those responsible with enquiries ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland received a number of reports on Tuesday, February 9, from residents in the Garnock Street, Merksworth Avenue area of Dalry in relation to motor-vehicles being broken into as well as the theft of a car.

“The car was traced abandoned to a country road in the Garnock Valley.

“Local enquiries are ongoing to identify and charge those responsible.

"Police would like to remind and encourage vehicle owners to confirm their vehicles are locked when leaving them unattended, and to make sure the keys are stored securely and safely within their home address.

“If the car is fitted with a factory alarm and immobiliser please set it and do not leave valuables or paperwork on display within the car.”
