Heartless vandals have smashed the windows of the North Ayrshire Cancer Care centre in Kilwinning resulting in thousands of pounds of damage.
It is understood the incident took place overnight on Saturday before a volunteer discovered the damage on Sunday.
All of the building’s windows were smashed at the back as well as the patio doors leaving elderly volunteers 'distressed' while they helped organise transport for cancer patients in the area to the Beatson.
Chairperson David Haining said: “All the back windows have been smashed as well as the patio doors.
“It seems to be airgun pellets.
“We have been here 23 years and we have never had anything like this and this is the second incident in the space of four weeks.
“We cannot use our therapy rooms and counselling rooms due to the pandemic but we still have volunteers in the building on a daily basis taking calls.
“They can be quite elderly and there are a few in their 80s and it can be quite threatening for them to go in and find smashed glass when all they are trying to do is help cancer patients get transport to the Beatson.
“The damage is going to costs several thousands of pounds to repair."
Trustee Mavis Holland who is a volunteer at the centre added: “We feel disgusted. We are a cancer charity. Our main occupation is to transport cancer patients to and from hospital and for this to happen we feel very upset.
“There is glass everywhere and it is distressing but this will not put us off.”
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
