A SEX offender from Stevenston was fined for failing to tell police of an account he was using on a dating app.

John Wallace, 59, pled guilty after failing to notify police of the name he was using while bailed between February 1 and June 21 last year.

The Procurator Fiscal told the court a police officer and social worker attended Wallace’s address during a risk assessment. While examining his phone, they saw that the former Ardoch Court resident had an account on dating app Plenty of Fish – with Wallace confirming he had met females on the site.

However on returning to Irvine police office, records stated Wallace had not notified officers of the account he was using.

Representing himself, Wallace, now of Craigpark Way, Uddingston, told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court the offence was “genuine oversight”

He added: “I apologise to my lord for that – I’m very sorry”.

He was fined £160 plus a £10 government victim surcharge, adding: “I’ll pay in full by the end of next week.”

Any information on criminality can be reported to police on 101 – in an emergency always dias 999.
