The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team recently conducted a technical rope training session at Castle Hill in the town.
The training session, led by senior coastal operations officer Steve Muldoon, involved a number of technical evolutions including a fully simulated casualty rescue as well as multiple accompanied descents.
An accompanied descent provides the option of taking untrained personnel, such as a paramedic or other emergency service personnel, into the coastguard’s rope rescue system to assist with access into a specific area for example in order to stabilise a casualty prior to being packaged and extracted.
