DRUMMER Gordy Duncan may have played at sell out stadiums around the world with the likes of Gary Numan, Gabrielle, Paulo Nutini and more recently Calvin Harris.

But now Gordy is taking a break from travelling the world and is back home in Ardrossan on a mission to help North Ayrshire kid pick up their drumsticks and learn to play the drums.

“I have had a great career, I played with Terra Diablo and I have been around the world playing with Gary Numan and most recently Calvin Harris,” said Gordy.

“I decided to come back to Ardrossan and set up the teaching school but then the pandemic hit and I had to think of new ways of teaching pupils.

“But unfortunately some of them don’t have access to a kit and that has proved a real challenge.”

Inspired by his friendship with the late Ted McKenna, of hit Scottish act, the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Gordy has set up a Crowdfunder to help him raise £5000 to buy pads and sticks for children who can’t afford them.

And he will choose 10 of those people who pledge his Crowdfunder to give them a drum lesson.

He said: “Every year I try and honour Ted’s memory. He was a great mentor and friend and I am driven by his passion and talent so I thought the Crowdfunder would be a good way to remember him.

“I having played the drums for over 40 years and I believe in the health benefits for children who learn.”
