Emergency services rushed to a Stevenston street yesterday after a hearse caught fire.

The alarm was raised at 3.51pm on Friday (February 19) after smoke could be seen coming from the vehicle on Glencairn Street.

A fire engine from Kilwinning Community Fire Station arrived on the scene just minutes later.

Police were also called and closed the road for a short time to allow the fire to be put out.

It's not believed anyone was injured in the incident and the Herald understands that the vehicle had just returned from a funeral.

The road was fully reopened around 5pm.
