A van driver says he is lucky to be alive after a brick was thrown at his moving vehicle in Kilwinning on Monday night.

The incident occurred on Pennyburn Road at around 6.30pm with the driver escaping without injury.

Police have yet to charge anyone in connection with the incident.

The driver who wishes to remain anonymous said: "I was shocked especially travelling at 30mph when a boulder comes through your screen. No one expects that to happen.

"When a chip hits your windscreen you get the fright of your life but when you see a missile flying towards you it is a horrible feeling.

"It all happened so quickly and in a split second I could see it heading towards me but I had no time to react.

"I was lucky as it hit the passenger side of the front but if it had come through the side window a second later I could have been dead.

“It’s horrible to think people would do that in the area.”

Police officers are now appealing to locals for information to help with their ongoing enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "About 6.30pm on Monday, February 22, 2021, in the Pennyburn Road, Kilwinning a brick was thrown striking a moving vehicle which resulted in a cracked windscreen.
