Emergency services raced to a Stevenston street tonight after a house caught fire.

The incident happened just before 6pm on Boglemart Street, Stevenston, with fire engines, police and an ambulance all in attendance. 

Fire crews have extinguished the blaze with two people requiring treatment for smoke inhalation.

The road has been shut and buses have been diverted.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.47pm on Wednesday, February 24 to reports of a dwelling fire in Boglemart Street, Stevenston.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Two casualties suffering from smoke inhalation were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service added: "We received a call at 5.50pm to attend an incident in Stevenston.

"We dispatched a paramedic response unit, which arrived within four minutes, one ambulance and our special operations team to the scene.”
